Check pollution before beautifying Jhelum
We the Srinagarites
I have taken pictures of river Jhelum to tell my point. Both were taken in the City, a few yards away from each other.
Here on one side beautification of Jhelum is going on at Sonwar and exactly adjacent to it a sewage drain pours directly into the river.
I am not against the beautification of Jhelum. But according to me the government’s first priority should be to check the menace of pollution of water bodies. There are hundreds of such open drains which pour directly into river Jhelum. State government should take adequate steps to check the inflow of sewage into water bodies by formulating proper drainage system.
If immediate measures aren’t taken we may have beautiful banks of Jhelum but the river nowhere in the coming years as it may die the same way the other water bodies are dying including the world famed but dying Dal lake.
