Forest department yields Rs 12 cr record revenue

Srinagar, Feb 12: The Forest Department and SFC have distributed 8 lakh cfts of timber during the current financial year up to ending January in Kashmir division and earned revenue of Rs.12 crore.
This, according to an official statement, was stated at a high level review meeting of officers of Forest department and State Forest Corporation here today presided over by Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad.
It  was told in the meeting that against the target of dumping 12 lakh cfts of timber and 88 lakh cfts have so far been stocked and the process is going on.
It was further told in the meeting that 1.8 lakh quintals firewood have also been provided and revenue of Rs. 1.19 crore have been received. Meanwhile, 1100 hectares of land have been brought under fencing, plantation and other engineering works involving an expenditure of Rs. 4 crore.
Describing the Forest and Environment subject for future, the Minister impressed upon the concerned to take all measures for conservation of forests so that this precious natural wealth could be preserved and timber smuggling would be checked fully.
