Saffron growers appeal CM
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Feb 12: All J&K Saffron Growers and Dealers’ Association has expressed concern over low rates quoted by some bidders for supply of saffron to Guruvayur Devaswom Guruvayur Kerla.
President of the association G M Pampori said the rates quoted in the tenders that were opened on Wednesday in Kerla were shockingly abysmally low.
He said it had raised apprehensions among “us about the quality of the product that would be supplied.”
Pampori said one bidder had quoted Rs 86000/kg for Kashmiri Mongra, another Rs 1.5 lakhs/ kg, a third Rs 1.17 lakh/kg Mongra, and fourth Rs 1.64 lakh/ kg Mongra.
He said the rates were quite low when compared to the present Rs 1.55 lakh/kg in Kashmir.
Pampori appealed to the Kashmir Chambers of Commerce and Industry to look into the issue. “I think this has been done with a design to paint the entire saffron industry black.”
He sought intervention of the Chief Minister Omer Abdullah.
