JK Bank wins GV Raja football title

Srinagar, Feb 16: JK Bank lifted GV Raja Football tournament defeating State Bank of Travelcore, in a closely fought final at Trivendrum, Kerala on Monday.
JK Bank went into the match with high confidence owing to their performance in previous matches. Their opponents were also running high on confidence, as they had defeated high-ranking opponent, Vasco Sporting Goa in semi-final clash.
Despite pacy, aggressive football both teams were not able to score in the allotted time.
In tie breaker JK Bank defeated Trvelcore 4-3. JK Bank converted four out of five allotted kicks while Travelcore converted only three. For Bank Ibrahim, Karim, Bilal and Intikhwab converted penalties. Out of two penalties missed by Travelcore, one was brilliantly saved by JK Bank keeper, Vikram Jeet Singh. Vikramjeet was adjudged as best goalkeeper of the event.
In the event Bank started its campaign with match against Malabar United Kerala which they won 2-1 while in second match they defeated Titanium Kerala 1-0. In third match, they were defeated by a well-known team Vasco Sporting Goa. In semi-final they defeated Sesa Club Goa in tiebreaker.
The GV Raja tournament is among one of the top tournaments of the country. This year 24 teams participated in it. The 16 teams were local while eight were professional teams of outside. Outside teams included Malabar United, Titanium Club, Vasco Sporting Goa, Sesa Club, Army-XI (winners of this year Durand Cup), Mohan Bagan Academy, MEG Bangalore and JK Bank.
MANAGEMENT HAILS TRIUMPH
Srinagar, Feb 16: The JK Bank management has hailed the performance of its football team for winning GV Raja Football Tournament.
JK Bank on Monday won the GV Raja tournament defeating State Bank of Travelcore in tiebreaker.
Hailing the triumph the Bank Sports Board Member, Muhammad Amin Khan said, “It is a big win. GV Raja is one of the prestigious tournaments of the country and to win it is certainly a big triumph. The team played exceptionally well and were rewarded for that.”
