KU for moratorium on opening of new B.Ed colleges

Srinagar, Feb 17: The Vice-Chancellor Kashmir University, Prof Riyaz Punjabi today asked the B.Ed colleges in Non- Government sector to strictly adhere to norms laid down by the affiliated universities.
 VC was addressing a meeting at varsity convened in response to a communication from secretary Higher Education Department to ascertain the viability of starting new B.Ed colleges in J&K. The meeting unanimously proposed that a moratorium for opening up new B.Ed new colleges should be extended for another two years in the state.
 Prof Riyaz Punjabi took strong note of reports that students in some B.Ed collages were getting degrees without attending the collages regularly and as a deterrent, therefore, the VC urged the DCDC to regularly conduct the surprise checks of these collages.
 The meeting resolved that these colleges should strictly adhere to norms laid down by the state and affiliated universities, failing which KU would be constrained to withhold support to these colleges.
 The meeting also decided that B.Ed colleges opening under the non-government sector shall produce no-objection certificate for verification of allotted site and that no collage would be allowed to assume migratory nature without seeking proper permission.
 The meeting was attended by Registrar Kashmir University, Prof Syed Fayaz, Dean college development council, Prof Mushtaq A Kaw, Principal Government Degree Collage Bijbehara, Principal Amar Sing Collage, Prof Mumtaz Soz, Principal KSERT College Humhama and Assistant registrar collage development Dr Me’raj-ud-Din.
