Volunteers to clean, maintain Dal, Nageen Lakes

Jammu, Feb 18: The government would soon start the process of registering 8,000 volunteers to work as tourist guides, etc in the state.
This decision was taken at a meeting of officers of the State level Advisory Committee on Youth Programme chaired by minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, R S Chib here on Thursday.
The meeting resolved to make registration of the volunteers at Panchayat level and approved the affiliation of the volunteers with the Nehru Yuva Kendra.
The meeting was told that the Prime Minister was being approached to formally launch the programme in May this year.
Addressing the meeting, Chib said that a strong contingent of volunteers would be deployed for cleanings and maintenance of world famous Dal and Nagin Lakes, creating awareness about environment, National Mission for Female Literacy, Health and Sanitation and Disaster Management besides acting as tourist guides to promote adventure, leisure and pilgrim tourism in the State.
It was decided that the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghathan, J&K Chapter would organise a National Integration Camp (NIC) on February 22 and 23 at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall, Budgam and Jammu in which youth from the state and outside would participate.
