Day 5: Kulgam observes shutdown

Kulgam, Feb 19: Amid complete shutdown on fifth consecutive day, protests rocked this South Kashmir district on Friday against the indiscriminate firing by troopers on funeral procession of militants.
Strict restrictions were put in place in and around Qaimoh, Khudwani, Redwani and Rampora with police and paramilitary CRPF men deployed in strength.
After the Friday prayers, people in large numbers gathered outside Jamia Masjid at Qaimoh and staged pro-freedom demonstrations.
They were demanding action against the CRPF men who they alleged fired directly on the funeral procession leaving eight people critically injured.
The activists of Tehreek-I-Hurriyat led by Younis Ahmad and the protesters staged demonstrations. Mirwaiz South Kashmir Qazi Yasir addressed the people inside the Masjid.
Protests and shutdown was also reported from Yaripora and Buchroo.
Amid shutdown people in large numbers staged massive pro-freedom demonstrations after Friday prayers outside the Ziarat Masjid and Main Chowk in Kulgam town.
