KCCI for promotion of leather industry

Srinagar, Feb 19: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry today held a meeting to discuss various schemes regarding the development of Leather Parks in Kashmir.
The meeting was chaired by Senior Vice President, KCCI Abdul Hamid Punjabi and was attended by representatives from the SIDCO and entrepreneurs.
In the meeting among other things the development of the Leather Park at Lassipora by the SIDCO was deliberated upon.
The representative of the SIDCO informed the meeting that the Leather Park at Lassipora was equipped with state of the art pollution control devices and other facilities for interested entrepreneurs.
Other schemes designed to assist the leather industry by addressing the infrastructure needs of the entire sector which would enable the industry to be globally competitive were also discussed.
It was felt that the revival of tannery units which had turned sick due to various reasons also needed to be looked into.
The abundant availability of raw material in Kashmir also needed to be properly channelised to the benefit of the local entrepreneurs.
It was decided to create awareness amongst the business fraternity about the opportunities available in this sector through seminars and other means.
