Mehbooba meets PM
SHEIKH AHMED
New Delhi, Feb 19: Ahead of Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary-level talks, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti today met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and urged him to make the talks purposeful to enable resolution of the Kashmir issue amicably.
During the meeting, Mehbooba apprised the PM about her party’s stand on various political issues as well as violation of human rights by the security forces. She strongly pleaded for resumption of Composite Dialogue Process with Pakistan to find amicable solution to various contentious issues.
Mufti urged Dr Singh to address both internal and external dimensions of the Kashmir problem. She said that suspension of talks would serve only those elements which do not want peace and stability in the region.
The PDP chief also took up the issue of human rights violations by the security forces, stating that innocent youth were being targeted. She said that such incidents had negative fallout on the thought process of the people. She demanded strict action against those responsible for killing innocent people.
She also brought to the notice of the PM arrest of some Kashmiri youth in connection with the Pune bomb blast. Mehbooba sought the PM’s intervention to seek their early release.
