Report agri land conversion or face action: Sagar to officials

GK NEWS NETWORK

Jammu, Feb 19: The government today decided to penalize the officials for failing to report the conversion of agriculture land for other purposes.
“A monthly report would be prepared about the number of land use violations reported, disposed off and the quantum of penalties imposed,” the Law and Parliament Affairs Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar said adding incentives would be given to the officers for implementing the Land Use Act effectively.
Speaking at a meeting held under his chairmanship for a comprehensive review of Legislative Frame Work of “Land Use” Act, Sagar underscored the need for strict adherence to the Land Use Act so that conversion of agricultural land for other purposes was checked effectively.
He said in no case agricultural land should be allowed to convert as it could have adverse affect on socio-economic environment and lead to food scarcity.
Agriculture Minister, G H Mir said the laws should be made stricter so that the tendency of land conversion can be curbed.
Revenue Minister, Raman Bhalla said the instructions had been passed to officers to stop violating existing land use laws.
