Restrictions in old city today
GOWHAR BHAT
Srinagar, Feb 19: In view of the Hurriyat Conference (G)’s Kashmir Bandh call on Saturday, police is likely to impose restrictions in the “volatile” areas of the old city.
A senior police official told Greater Kashmir that police feared protests in parts of old city and was likely to impose restrictions and strictly implement section 144, which is currently in force in the summer capital.
“There are many volatile areas in the down town Srinagar where we expect protests and processions during the day. We have decided to impose restrictions in the areas falling under six police stations,” the official said.
“No protests or processions would be allowed,” the official said, adding that police and paramilitary troopers would be deployed in strength in these areas.
The strike call has been given by Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani against “increasing arrests and atrocities on civilians and human rights violations across the Valley.”
The Hurriyat (G) has also threatened mass agitation if government failed to curb “atrocities and HR violations.”
