Jammu, Feb 19: The Chairperson, Unique Identification (UID) project under Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Nandan Nilekani gave a presentation at a high level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today, in the Civil Secretariat regarding the new and unique system of identification number for individual.
The chief minister said state government would cooperate with UIDAI for the implementation of UID project.
He said a committee will be constituted to work on this project, adding that the Permanent Resident Certificates (PRCs) will also contain this unique identification number to make them more informative.
Nilekani said the unique number will be based on self data to be provided by each person and his/her bio-metrics like ten finger prints, eyes scan and facial features will be stored in a data base and any person seeking any kind of services will have to prove his identity through these bio-metrics to avoid any duplication of identification.
“This number will work as the identity number of the individual which shall be either learnt by him or inscribed on his wrist which when entered in UID enabled system shall replicate his identity,” he added.
“This number will facilitate the individual in seeking all kind of public services in addition to authentication of identity,” he said.
