Trooper dies accidentally; another killed by colleague

Jammu, Feb 20: An army trooper was killed when his official weapon went off accidentally, while another one was shot dead by his colleague, in two different incidents in Jammu region.
 Official sources said that that an army personal was killed on a forward post in Poonch sector, early this morning.
 Identified as Ram Singh of 6 Kumaom Regiment, died when his rifle accidentally went off while he was on duty at Gulpur forward defence location along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
 His colleagues took him to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, police said, adding the trooper’s body would be sent to his native place in Champwat belt in Uttarakhand.
 Meanwhile, police detained a trooper who allegedly opened fire and shot dead his colleague after a scuffle at Pul Doda Saturday morning.
 Sources quoting eyewitnesses told Greater Kashmir that a scuffle broke out between two army personnel of 8 Rashtriya Rifles (4 Sector) who were on patrolling duty, this morning. As the war of words intensified, one of the army personal pumped at least one bullet in his colleague’s abdomen.
 The other army personnel immediately swung into action and overpowered the accused trooper, sources said adding that the wounded trooper, identified as Rifleman Gurjant Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
 The accused, GN Popat of Maharastra, was disarmed and was handed over to local police. Police said that it has registered murder case at Doda police station and started investigation.
