‘Upgrade PHC Hazratbal to CHC’
GK CITY CORRESPONDENT
Srinagar, Feb 21: The inhabitants of Hazratbal and its adjoining areas have urged the Government to implement its order regarding up gradation of the Primary Health Centre at Habak to the Community Health Centre.
The patients and residents availing the services of the PHC, said the Centre was doing a commendable job by providing preventive and specialized day-care service to a vast population in Hazratbal.
“The Centre also holds medical camp during the annual Urs at Aasar-Sharief Dargah Hazratbal,” the residents said adding the up- gradation decision had already been taken during the District Development Board meeting in 2008.
“By up- gradation, the patients won’t have to travel to SMHS and SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment. The present coalition government, which claims that up- gradation of health sector was its priority, should implement the decision at earliest,” they said.
An official from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Government Medical College here, which is controlling the health block as its field practice area, confirmed that the Government had decided to upgrade the health centre.
“During the meeting it was conveyed that PHC Hazratbal shall be upgraded to community health centre, which will be providing round the clock specialized services by physician and surgeon specialists, gynaecologist and obstetrician, child specialist,” he said.
The proposal, he said had already been sent to the administrative department by the principal, GMC for formal orders. The upgradation further needs an additional building block and sanction of necessary staff and infrastructure as per Indian public health standards for CHC, he added.
Presently, the PHC was providing laboratory, ophthalmic, radiological, dental, MCH and routine OPD and day-care services and is equipped with latest operation theatre for major surgeries.
