2 smugglers held near IB, Heroin worth Rs 80 crores seized

Jammu, Feb 21: Army has claimed to have arrested two cross border narcotic smugglers, including a teenager and allegedly recovered Heroin worth Rs 80 crores in the international market.
Official sources said the two border smuggler were arrested when they crossed back to this side of India-Pakistan border after receiving a narcotic consignment in Khour sector of International Border, 27 km from Jammu.
The duo has been identified as Yashpal Sharma son of Prakash Chand and 18-year-old Arjun Singh son of Rattan Singh of village Hamirpur Block, Khour.
Defence spokesman, Lt Col Biplab Nath told Greater Kashmir that troops of Crossed Swords Division noticed two persons moving suspiciously ahead of the border fence approx 500 meters from the IB at around 5 PM, Saturday evening.
On being seen, one of the suspects ran away and managed to hide some object, but was later apprehended at the LC fence gate. During the sustained interrogation the arrested persons revealed that they had received a consignment of narcotics which one of them managed to hide in a nearby area.
Searches were conducted to recover the drug consignment, the spokesman said adding however the search had to be called off due to darkness. “We resumed the search operation this morning and managed to recover a bag containing 16 sealed packets of narcotics comprising 15 packets of heroin and a packet of opium”, he added.
The spokesman claimed that the market price of heroin was approximately Rs 5 crores per kilogram in the international market. Both the accused were later handed over to the police for further investigation.
