Laptop ‘diplomacy’

This refers to the news item regarding the decision of the state government to provide laptops to the legislators to make them hi-tech. One is surprised over such decisions. On one hand the government laments over the lack of funds and on the other, it burdens the state exchequer with such decisions. The Govt will have to go the Central Govt. with another begging bowl for funds for the laptops. Most of the legislators are yet to know the technical know-how of the laptops. These laptops will only gather dust in their otherwise spacious and luxurious residential bungalows. They will cry for the proper use for public purposes. The expenditure of Rs 60 lacks on the purchase of laptops and similar other items could be utilized to generate more electricity to curtail the load shedding, which is a pre-requisite for the operation of such devices. The Government should seriously address these issues so that the hopes and dreams of common people are not shattered
