City to get Rs 28 cr slaughter house: Ruhulla

Jammu, Feb 25: The government is establishing a modern abattoir at Wanihama in the City at a cost of Rs. 28 crore, the Minister for Animal/ Sheep Husbandry, Science & Technology and Information Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi Thursday said.
 He stated this while chairing a meeting of officers in Jammu convened to review the functioning of Animal and Sheep Husbandry department.
 An official handout said: “The Minister said that livestock rearing plays significant role in boosting the economy of the State, provides livelihood to a large number of small and marginal farmers, plays significant role in the rural economy. He said the sector contributes about 11 percent towards Gross Domestic Product of the State.”
 “The meeting was informed that the production of milk has reached to 1178.42 thousand metric tonnes per day by ending January 2010 which is 7.79 percent more during the corresponding period. The centre has sanctioned Rs. 2.60 crore for establishing one Liquid Nitrogen 2 (LN2) plant of 21 Litres capacity per hour,” it added.
