When Muslims cremated Pandit colleague

LAWDA bids adieu to its executive engineer

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Feb 25: In a typical example of communal harmony, the staffers of the majority community at the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority on Thursday performed the last rites of their Pandit Colleague, Satish Kumar Kairhaloo, who was working as its executive engineer.
The LAWDA officials said Kairhaloo was admitted in SKIMS Soura after he suffered brain hemorrhage on Saturday. After remaining in comma for past five days, he breathed his last today.
The entire staff of LAWDA made arrangements for his last rites. He was cremated at Karan Nagar crematorium.
“He was a fatherly figure for us. Despite being highly qualified, he was down to earth and shared cordial relations with the staff. Except his wife and brother, he does not have any family member here. We considered it our responsibility to perform his last rites,” said a LAWDA official, Khursheed Maqdoomi with moist eyes.
Pertinently, Kairhaloo was born in Habba Kadal but migrated to Jammu in early ‘90s. Before joining LAWDA, he worked in PHE Budgam.
The LAWDA secretary, Muhammad Hussain said Kairhaloo had played a pivot role in implementation of Dal Conservation Project for past two years. “He personally looked after the cleaning of the Dal and development of plots for rehabilitation of its dwellers. His death is a personal loss for every staffer of LAWDA,” he said.
Kairhoo’s New Delhi based brother, Dr PL Kairhaloo expressed gratitude to the Muslim Community particularly the LAWDA staff in facilitating the last rites. “I can’t forget this gesture of my Muslim brothers. They shared our sorrow and religious responsibilities,” he told Greater Kashmir.
Meanwhile the deputy chief minister, Tara Chand and Minister of State for Housing, Nasir Sogami condoled Kairhaloo’s demise. The deputy CM recalled his contribution in the state’s effort to revive the glory of Dal.
LAWDA also conveyed a condolence meeting with its vice-chairperson, Irfan Yasin in chair and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
“I have lost one of my hardworking and honest engineers,” inconsolable Yasin said.
