Shift Shah to Srinagar Central Jail: HC

SAMAAN LATEEF

Srinagar, Feb 26: The High Court Friday directed the State to shift Democratic Freedom Party chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah, arrested from his Sanatnagar residence here on 2nd of this month, from Kathua to Srinagar Central Jail.
A writ petition has been filed by Shah’s wife, Dr Bilquees through her counsel Mian Abdul Qayoom for quashing the detention under PSA and shifting of the detainee from Kathua Jail to Srinagar Central Jail.
Meanwhile, the incarcerated leader was allegedly denied treatment at Government Medical College, Jammu, where he had been shifted by authorities on doctor’s advice.
Expressing concern over Shah’s deteriorating health, party activists told Greater Kashmir he had been shifted to GMC for surgery. “However, after day long wait the doctors and Medical Superintendent of GMC refused to admit the ailing leader,” they alleged.
The medical reports of Shah prepared by District Hospital Kathua reveals that his prostrate is enlarging while a cyst is seen in the middle of his left kidney.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, the superintendent GMC Jammu, Dr Ramesh Gupta, termed the allegations as baseless. “He had urological problems for which he was attended by Urologist, Dr Ilyas Sharma,” he said, adding the doctor had advised some diagnostic tests.
