Jammu, Feb 2: Police today claimed to have busted a gang of inter-state car lifters and arrested six persons, on whose disclosure at least six stolen vehicles have been recovered from different parts of the state.
Official sources said that Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu, Basant Kumar Rath, constituted a special team to conduct inquiry in various cases of car theft registered in different police stations of Jammu city. Superintendent of Police North, Randeep Kumar, told media persons that the team headed by SHO Bus Stand, Sub Inspector Parvez Sajad, conducted a detailed investigation and managed to bust a gang of car lifters. Six persons, including two beneficiaries, have been arrested and six stolen vehicles have been recovered on their disclosure, he said.
Police identified the accused as Sandeep Raina S/o Maharaj Krishan Koul R/o Bhawani Nagar Talab Tillo Jammu, Muhammad Umer Sheikh S/o Muhammad Amin Sheikh of Haji Naar Tangh Dhar, Kupwara, Aijaz Ahmed S/o Muhammad Amin Sheikh of Haji Naar Tangh Dhar, Kupwara, and Wasim Ahmed Mir son of Ali Muhammad Mir of Tariqpura Kupwara.
Two persons who had purchased the stolen vehicles, Parvez Ahmed alias Yagi son of Abdul Rashid of Ibqot Tangdhar, Kupwara, and Muhammad Shafi Kuchhe S/o Abdul Rehman Kuchhe of Patthar Masjid Islamyarbal Zainakadal Srinagar have also been arrested and booked by the police. The SP said that the accused had adopted a different modus operandi, which they disclosed during sustained interrogation. “They used to hire vehicles from Jammu, Chandigarh, Delhi and Amritsar,” he said adding, “Once in Jammu they, during night stay in hotel, used to offer sedatives-mixed juice to the driver so as to make him unconscious.” The accused after lifting the vehicle used to sell it in various parts of Kashmir valley, he said adding though six vehicles have been recovered so far some more recoveries are expected.
The recovered vehicles include Scorpio PB12K- 2986, Scorpio MH-06T, Tata Sumo JK11 -4657, Maruti 800 JK02AC-7169, Wagon R and Maruti 800 JK03A- 4283.
With the arrests, police claimed to have solved six cases of theft registered at various police stations in Jammu.
