Sagar for bringing local works under MGNREGA

New Delhi, Feb 2: A Sammelan on Mahatma Gandhi NREGA was held here this afternoon to commemorate four years of implementation of the scheme. On the occasion Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, presented awards in recognition of excellence in implementation. J&K Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Umang Narula, Secretary Rural Development attended the Sammelan along with officers from the State Department of Rural Development. Sagar said the scheme is being carried on in full swing in the State. “Under this scheme nearly 6 lakh household have been issued job cards and 6, 15,467 households have been benefited from employment since inception. “The State Employment Guarantee Council has been constituted along with the notification of rules for the business of the council”, he said and added that the Annual Report for two consecutive years has been approved by Council. While mentioning about the latest developments in the scheme, the Minister said that Management Information System (MIS) has been put in place for on-line reporting and 2,20,112 bank accounts have been opened for job card holders as 90 percent of the payments made to the labours is through the bank. Mr. Sagar added that a complaint redressal mechanism has been set up in all districts and social audit has been conducted.
