JK to get IGNWP, IGNDP schemes

Jammu, Feb 4: The government is planning to extend Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS) and Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) to provide financial assistance to the widows and disabled persons. This, according to an official statement, was stated at a review meeting of the department presided by the Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo here today. Under these schemes monthly pension benefit of Rs.325 would be provided to each beneficiary.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the widows in the age group of 40 to 64 years belonging to house hold families living below the poverty line shall be eligible for the benefits under IGNWPS, while the persons suffering from severe or multiple disabilities shall be eligible for the benefits of IGNDPS. She said initially 8778 beneficiaries would be covered under these schemes.
