50 new ITIs likely for JK: Chib

Jammu, Feb 6: The government today constituted a committee to suggest measures for bringing improvement in the functioning of ITI’s with focus on skill upgradation to cope up with burning demand of trained work force.
The committee would submit its report within a month.
The decision to this effect taken at a review meeting of the ITI’s under Public Private Partnership (PPP) and vocational Training Improvement Programme (VTIP) chaired by Minister for Technical Education, R S Chib.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that government had already moved a proposal for creation of about 50 new ITI’s to cover all the uncovered blocks of the State so that facilities of technical education reach to the remote and far-flung areas of the State.
He said that thrust needs to be laid on upgradation of existing ITI’s by introducing various schemes under PMs Reconstruction Programme including “upgradation and Modernization of existing ITI’s” and “construction of Women ITI’s under these two schemes it has been envisaged to construct 10 women ITI’s besides replacing 102 obsolete trade units by modern and market friendly trades.
Chib said five women wings have been created in the existing ITI’s ,and 10 new women ITI’s constructed in the State. This has raised the intake capacity of existing ITI’s to more than 9000 per year.
