Farooq’s statement

This refers to the book release function of Prof. M S Khruoo. Dr. Farooq Abdullah in his address complimented the research and scientific achievements of Prof. Khuroo especially in field of viral hepatitis and saluted him for his contributions. He urged today’s physicians to make him and other dedicated senior physicians of the valley a role model. He, in addition, commented on some alleged unethical practices of today’s few doctor namely overcharging patients, making institutional machinery defunct deliberately to run their private run machines, private practice by doctors who are committed to full time work and are paid non-practising allowance, etc.  Most of the doctors were unhappy with these comments in this function as these practices belong to a small group of doctors and not to the doctors fraternity. I was shocked to read coverage of Greater Kashmir as it covered the function by highlighting “Loot of the doctors” as reported by the chief guest and did not highlight the essence and message of the function. After all the essence of this function was to felicitate Dr. Khuroo and his achievements and let the younger generation take relevant lessons to follow the path of hard work, ethics, dedication, discipline for which Dr. Khuroo has stood for. Farooq Abdullah’s statement was just a sidelight, which unfortunately made the whole news.
