‘Fake foreign militant extortionist’ gang busted

Pulwama, Feb 8: Police today claimed to have busted a gang who were posing as foreign militants and were extorting money from the locals. Three of the extortionists have been arrested while as the search for other two is on.
 According to Police the arrested has been identified as Waris Dar alias Kabootar Karachi, Abdul Qayoom Dar alias Omar Pathan and Sabzar Dar alias Dilawar Kashmiri—all residents of Pulwama.
 Talking to Greater Kashmir, Superintendent of Police, Pulwama, Kifayat Haider the gang of around five men carrying toy guns had been active in the district for a while and were mostly seen roaming around in a Tata Sumo during nights.
 “They used to snatch mobiles and other expensive gadgets from people besides collecting donations by posing as foreign militants,” he said.
 He said a sense of insecurity had developed among the locals who were even afraid of reporting the incidents to police for the fear of reprisal.
 “We launched a search operation today and arrested three of the extortionists who revealed the names of other two men,” he said. The search for them is on, he added.
 He, however, refused to disclose the name of two other extortionists.
 We have also made certain recoveries from the arrested persons including few mobile sets and other gadgets.
 Police has registered an FIR No. 58/2010 under section 398 RPC.
