Cold wave, fog impact Jammu life

Jammu, Jan 10: The winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir and its adjoining areas remained under grip of cold and fog throwing normal life out of gear.Various parts of Jammu, Samba and Kathua district remained covered under thick fog since wee hours on Sunday.
People traveling on Jammu-Pathankot highway were the worst suffers as the visibility was less than 20 meters in the early hours of the day. Though the fog disappeared in the afternoon the temperature remained below normal throwing the normal life out of gear.
Sources said that most of the trains leaving Jammu Railway Stations were running more than four hours late. Air traffic was also badly affected in the morning but no flight in the afternoon was cancelled, sources added.
Traffic on 300 kilometer long Jammu-Srinagar Highway however remained unaffected.
The roads in most parts of Jammu city remained deserted today as people preferred to remain indoor.
The state government has already changed the timings of government and private schools in Jammu. The affect of the decreasing temperature was also witnessed on the rehearsal for ensuing Republic Day celebrations.
Keeping in view of the sudden dip in mercury the officials have changed the timings of the rehearsal, sources added.
