Srinagar, Jan 10: The Minister of State for H&UDD, Tourism ,PHE and Revenue & Relief, Nasir Sogami on Sunday assured the delegation that the issue of shifting of CRPF camp at Lal Chowk would be taken up in the security meetings and he would request the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for its relocation, an official handout said.
Urging the traders community to resume business from Monday, Sogami sought cooperation from them for improving the façade of the historic Lal Chowk, describing it as the hub of tourism and business activity of the summer capital.
The Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), led by Muhammad Yasin, had called on the Minister.
“While assuring the Minister of their full support in this endeavour, the federation members highlighted some of their major demands which include proper street-lighting, reconstruction of Ganta Ghar and improvement in sanitation,” the handout said.
The Minister said the genuine demands would be accorded top priority and all efforts would be made to beautify the city centre which, he added, has its own historic significance. He directed the Municipal authorities and the power department to carry out sanitation drive in Lal Chowk on a regular basis and replace all defunct street-lights.
