Must read
On January 2, l had an opportunity to attend the book releasing function in B. Ed College Srinagar. The Book was “Aaye-ne-Tral” by a medical practitioner and physician Dr. Nissar Ahmad Bhat. Since I hail from same area and am a student of history, I purchased copy of the book and read it with great interest. The book is an Encyclopedia of Tral based on primary and secondary sources .The author seems to have traveled extensively and has made a rich collection of photographs of historical and archeological cities, flora, religious places and men of repute to make the book colorful and presentable. Dr. Nisar has not divorced his profession but has maintained a wonderful balance while taking his pen in his hand and giving shape to his gigantic research work. It is really amazing to see him giving relief and comfort to the ailing patients, being a physician specialist on the one hand and on the other knitting the threads of our rich past and uncertain present as a social scientist. The author has touched all aspects of the Tral society which have remained untouched so far in historical research works at such a large scale. He has succeeded in presenting a vivid picture of Tral. I am not here to write the critique of the book. It is not his professional field but even then he has taken care of modern sense of historiography by focusing on common man and not on the ruling elite only. The book is a must read.
