Excise commissioner convenes revenue review meeting

Jammu, Jan 11: Excise Commissioner, J&K, Pradeep Gupta reviewed the performance of the department in a meeting of Deputy Excise Commissioners and Excise and Taxation Officers from various Ranges of the State here today.
Reviewing the progress for the month of December, 2009, it was observed that Rs. 51.64 crore have been recovered during December this year which is Rs. 4.23 crore more than that recovered during the previous year in December 2008. Cumulatively ending December, 2009 the department has earned Rs. 434.84 crore in the current year which is Rs. 63.52 crore more than that earned in the corresponding period of the previous year, an official statement said.
The progress of the execution of the new Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur coming up at a cost of Rs. 2306.79 lakh and Toll Post Nagri coming up at a cost of Rs. 885 lakh was also reviewed in the meeting. Gupta directed the concerned Dy. Excise Commissioner to liaise with the executing agencies to speed up the works.
Gupta impressed upon the officers to redouble their efforts to achieve better results in the coming months and achieve the target set for the year 2009-10 in full. He exhorted upon the officers to exercise vigil to ensure that there is no evasion of Toll and Excise revenue anywhere in the state.
