Srinagar, Jan 13: Various constituents of Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Wednesday raised a demand for Shoora type structure of the conglomerate and immediate dissolution of the existing two-tier system.
Senior Hurriyat leader and Chairman National Front, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, asserted that restructuring of the conglomerate without consensus among all constituents would not be tolerated.
In a statement here, Khan said the present structure of the conglomerate should be developed into a Shoora type setup. “Present executive and general council should be dissolved forthwith and a Shoora be formed for decision-making,” he said.
He said dissolution of the existing structure of the Hurriyat without any further delay was need of the hour “and it shall be done without wasting any more time.”
“We will never allow anyone to exploit Hurriyat for political gains,” he said.
He said only those persons should be part of the Shoora who have a clear political record and who believe in the 1993 Hurriyat Constitution.
“I have made it clear to the working committee of my party that we won’t accept any restructuring of the conglomerate which may be done without consensus between various elements,” he said, adding National Front has already sent recommendations in this regard to the Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
He appealed various constituents of the Hurriyat to play a role in making the conglomerate a stronger political platform.
Another Hurriyat (M) constituent, Salvation Movement, today demanded single-tier system for the conglomerate, saying it will streamlines functioning.
In a statement, a party spokesman said the conglomerate should not take any decision without taking its constituents into confidence. “We believe that resolution of Kashmir is in UN resolutions. The conglomerate should stress on implementation of these resolutions,” it said.
It said the Hurriyat should restore the 1993 Constitution and stress for unification for resolution of Kashmir dispute according to aspirations of Kashmiris.
Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League has also demanded dissolution of present executive and general councils of the conglomerate.
“They should be immediately replaced with Shoora type setup. The restructuring shall be done by consensus or else it won’t be accepted,” the party said in a statement.
