Lt Col, trooper charred to death

Jammu, Jan 15: Two troopers, including a Lieutenant Colonel, were charred to death in a fire incident during an outdoor training exercise in Udhampur district on Friday.
Official sources told Greater Kashmir, Lt Col Girish Tiwari and havaldar Vinod Kumar of 3 Madras regiment died when a tent they were sleeping in caught fire.
“The deceased had erected the tent near Kishenpur Manwal and were a part of a column which was on a routine outdoor exercise in the upper reaches of Udhampur district,” sources said.
“Preliminary investigation conducted so far revealed that the army official and his subordinate were caught in the fire which broke out in their tent late last night,” said an army official.
He said that the inquiry had been initiated to ascertain the cause of fire.
