RS 2 CR RELEASED FOR LAL CHOWK FACELIFT

Srinagar, Jan 15: The local MLA and Minister of State for Tourism, PHE and Irrigation, Nasir Sogami on Friday said the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has released Rs two crore for the Lal Chowk facelift.
 At a high level meeting of officers in the City under the chairmanship of the MOS various measures were discussed to be taken for the beautification and development of Lal Chowk, Srinagar.
 The Minister sought suggestions from various concerned officers with regard to restore the past glory and historical importance of the Lal Chowk.
  Sogami directed Chief Architecture and Chief Town Planner to come up with a comprehensive plan within 10 days, keeping in view the heritage and historical importance of Lal Chowk, Srinagar.
 He also asked the Chief Engineer UEED to submit report drainage and sewerage of the Lal Chowk within two days so that water logging problem is addressed forever in this busy market.
 He asked the Chief Engineer M&RE to replace old electric poles by modern lamp posts.
 It was decided in the meeting that SMC will consider the proposal of giving sanitation to private sector. The Minister sought the suggestions from traders federation and concerned officers in this behalf.
 Sogami also constituted a team headed by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar to monitor the development work of Lal Chowk, Srinagar and asked the traders federation to extend their full cooperation to the monitoring committee in this behalf.
