EMMRC programmes to be prime time telecast

Srinagar, Jan 1: In a significant development, the Kashmir University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar in a bid to reach out to large section of student fraternity with quality educational programmes.
 The MoU has been signed through the varsity’s Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC).
 According to the MoU—signed by the EMMRC director, Dr Shahid Rasool, and DD Director, Dr Rafeeq Masoodi—67 programmes produced by the EMMRC will be telecast on DD Kashmir thrice a week.
 The programmes include a lecture series concerning the under-graduate and post-graduate courses. The programmes shall be telecast on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at prime-time chunk in the evenings—between 9.30 pm to 10.30 pm, except on exigencies.
 “DD will not charge any telecast fee for these programmes,” the MoU reads.
 The KU vice-chancellor, Prof Riyaz Punjabi, said signing of MoU was a significant development aimed at reaching out to large section of students with quality educational programmes.
 “It will bring education to the doorsteps of students, who will be able to watch quality educational programmes at home,” he said.
 Prof Punjabi said the educational programmes will be of immense benefit to the student and teaching community.
 The EMMRC Director, said the idea to sign the MoU was to reach out to more students through visual medium.
 Pertinently, the EMMRC is one of the important centres at KU providing quality education to students through its e-content programmes and the virtual classroom.
 “The centre has produced over 80 e-content modules and 150 learning objects,” said a spokesman adding “The Centre is engaged in production and development of e-content in multimedia format in Botany for the undergraduate level students.”
 The virtual classroom of the EMMRC is ranked as No. 1 in India, he added.
