Woman dies, daughter critical in mishap

Srinagar, Jan 20: A woman was crushed to death and her daughter critically injured in a road accident at Dalgate Wednesday afternoon. The deceased Shaheena Wani, of Konakhan Dalgate was the aunt of Greater Kashmir's Senior Correspondent, Arif Shafi Wani.
Eyewitnesses said mother-daughter duo was walking on the footpath when a speeding vehicle jumped over the footpath hitting them.
They said the van driver was driving recklessly.
“The van driver lost control over his vehicle and straightway rolled over the footpath,” they said.
Police said the accused driver, Asadullah Sheikh has been arrested and the vehicle ceased and an FIR lodged at Police Station, Nehru Park.
Shaheena’s daughter Saqiba is battling for life at SMHS.
Meanwhile, the staff convened a condolence meeting and prayed for Jannah to the departed soul. They also expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
