Another swine flu case detected; toll reaches 67

Jammu, Jan 21: A villager was detected with swine flu, taking the total number of swine flu cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 67.
According to reports 34-year-old villager hailing from Akhnoor tehsil of Jammu district tested positive for H1N1 virus. He was immediately shifted to Government Medical College Hospital, where an isolated ward was being run by the hospital to treat such cases in emergency.
When contacted Dr R S Charak, who has been appointed as a Nodal officer for dealing with swine flu cases confirmed that the villager, whose name was not disclosed, hailing from Akhnoor tehsil reported with the symptoms of swine flu.
“The villager was admitted to the isolated ward specially run for dealing these cases and administered Tamiflu in view of his critical condition,” Dr Charak said.
He added that the condition of the patient was stable and expected to improve. “The patient is responding to the treatment and showing improvement,” he said.
He informed that all the nine members of the family were advised to get a complete check-up. They have been further advised that in case any symptom of swine flu were felt that they should immediately report the isolation centre in GMC Hospital.
Regarding the availability of medicines Dr Charak said that the Hospital has enough stocks of medicines to treat such cases.
