Masarat gets remand for 10 days

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Jan 21: Senior leader of the Hurriyat Conference (G) and Muslim League chairman, Masarat Alam was Thursday sent to 10 days judicial remand.
Police produced Masarat before Naib Tehsildar here seeking his remand, which was granted accordingly. Masarat was later sent to Srinagar Central Jail. The remand was sought after police brought a case against Masarat in Shaheed Gunj Police Station, registered under section 107 and 152.
Meanwhile, Masarat’s counsel has decided to file contempt petition against the police for violating the orders of a Srinagar Court, which had rejected the police plea for remand and instead ordered his release on January 20.
Nigeen police had on Wednesday sought 7-day judicial remand for Masarat from the Forest Magistrate, here against a 2006 case registered in Nigeen PS.
However, the Forest Magistrate had declined the remand and ordered for his immediate release. But the Police instead of complying with the court orders, detained Masarat in Police Station Shaheed Gunj.
Counsel for Masarat said, “As police violated the Forest Magistrate’s orders, we are now filing a contempt petition against the police.”
Earlier, on January 14, police had produced Masarat before Sub-Registrar here to seek his judicial remand. Subsequently, Sub-Registrar sent Masarat to seven day judicial remand, which ended on January 20.
Earlier, the High Court had quashed the PSA, 6th in row, against Masarat and ordered his release on January 1 this year.
