No move to raise milk prices in north India, says Pawar

New Delhi, Jan 21: Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar Thursday denied having said that prices of milk would be increased in north India, saying there was no such proposal in the offing.
"This is all a media creation. I had only said that there is a difference in demand and supply of milk," Pawar said, accusing the media of creating confusion.
"We have no proposal before us on milk prices," the minister clarified on the sidelines of a rural development conference here.
Dismissing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's statement that Pawar should be sacked from the post, he said that the Bahujan Samaj Party chief made the statement as she was unhappy over the decision taken by the central government to import raw sugar.
Pawar Wednesday indicated that the prices of milk would increase in north India on account of a dip in production. "A major problem we are facing is the insufficient availability of milk, particularly in northern India," Pawar said in his address at the national conference of state ministers of animal husbandry and dairy here.
