Hold civic polls on non-party basis: Tarigami
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, June 12: State Secretary CPI (M), Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, Saturday demanded holding of Panchayat /Local Body elections in the state on non-party lines, to pave the way for people’s participation in the development and planning process at the grass-roots levels. He also demanded removing of loopholes in the Panchayat Raj Act by introducing 73rd and 74th amendment in the existing Act.
While addressing a public rally at Harman in Shopian district, Tarigami said that elections for the panchayats are all the more necessary to remove apprehensions among the people that huge sum of amount meant for the development projects was being properly utilized.
Tarigami said that people had attached great expectations with the government, but the situation with regard to supply of power, condition of roads, availability of ration, kerosene, LPG, drinking water and medicare facilities in the rural areas has been pathetic, thus, shattering common man’s hope in the present dispensation. He suggested for Citizen- Centric approach of governance to deliver essential public services effectively.
Tarigami has demanded probe in the incident that took place in Rajouri Kadal yesterday, in which one youth was killed. While expressing deep shock over the incident, he demanded stern action against the erring officials. He said that such incidents were likely to create panic among the common masses resulting in further alienation, which will prove disastrous.
