Income Tax Deptt clarifies

Srinagar: The Income Tax Department today said the tax collection of Rs 1500 crore and target of Rs 1700 crore referred to in an interview of G. R. Sufi, chief commissioner Income Tax Amritsar by this paper on June 10, pertained to entire Amritsar charge and not J&K charge alone.
In a statement here today the department said: “There is a technical mistake regarding the figures of tax collections referred in the interview.”
“It is hereby clarified that collection figures of Rs. 1500 crore and target estimation of Rs 1700 crore mentioned in the interview relate to the entire Amritsar Charge and not to J&K Charge alone,” it said.
To recall, this paper on June 10, had carried interview of G R Sufi quoting him as saying that the department had realized Rs 1500 crore on account of income tax for the last fiscal and was eying Rs 1700 income tax for the current fiscal.
