In response to BSNL’s customer care (dis)service
Apropos the news item “BSNL’s customer care (dis)service” (GK 18.01.2010). As per the government policy, BSNL is giving due weightage to Senior Citizens, women and physically handicapped subscribers in all the Customer Service Centres as well as other public interacting areas. Instructions have also been given regarding this to all the field officers particularly in case of CSC Telegraph office. Separate counters might have not been maintaining in normal times but during just before pay by date, when the rush is more, a separate counter is designated for the above categorized public. A separate board could not be displayed at that time but necessary arrangements are made by the BSNL administration. In other than the above said CSC Telegraph office there is no rush and no separate counter is required. However, any inconvenience caused in this respect is regretted. In a cut throat competition, the BSNL is losing its earlier pride of earning good revenues and facing financial crippling along with the other telecom operators. But as BSNL is to shoulder a social responsibility and rural development obligations, as a matter of policy, it is extending services in every nook and corner of the valley without caring for the profits. However this organization always works under the guidelines of the Department of Telecom to meet the national targets assigned in the public interest. In the process of expansion of multifold directions and implementation of new technologies, BSNL is facing an acute shortage of technical and non technical staff as there is ban on recruitment in certain cadres. Due to customer awareness, the expectations of subscriber are increasing enormously but in spite of all these constraints, the Kashmir BSNL administration is trying its best to satisfy the customers as much as possible. Apart from that due to territorial and climatic conditions, the staff recruited in this area is comparatively less.
