Dogs prowl at Balgarden, SMC sleeps
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Jan 27: The residents of Balgarden are up in arms against the Srinagar Municipal Corporation for failing to check dog menace there even though the locality is just adjacent to the SMC headquarters in the City.
Scores of dogs prowl in the area while the residents find it difficult to venture out saying that in the past many people were bitten by the stray pack.
“We try to keep our children confined indoors only because there’s always a risk of their felling prey to the dogs,” the locals said.
Leave apart the kids, even the elders are hesitant to move out.
“For the past few months I avoid offering Fajr prayers at the Masjid only because of the dog scare,” said a local.
“The SMC must to something at an earliest,” said a local, Muazzam Nasir.
The locals appealed the authorities to look into the matter.
Pertinently, the SMC has given up the poising of dogs for the past some three years while an alarming population of over one lakh canines live in the summer capital.
