RBI ‘adopts’ village in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 28: As part of its platinum jubilee celebrations, the Reserve Bank, Jammu office organized an outreach programme at village Karhama in Kunzar in north Kashmir today.
In order to “adopt” the village as a model village, the bank shall be providing all banking facilities to the residents through Information Communication Technology.
The programme was presided over by Ghulam Hassan Mir, Minister for Agriculture, J&K Government and attended by senior officers of RBI, J&K Bank and other banks and officers of various government departments.
Speaking on the occasion Mir appreciated the efforts of RBI in reaching out to such a remote village in Kashmir.
Mir hailed the financial inclusion of the bank through ICT solutions based on biometric parameters scheme and expressed hope that this scheme would change the face of banking in the country.
He also appreciated the efforts of J&K Bank in the area and exhorted the banks to become more customer-friendly in order to mitigate the sufferings of the downtrodden sections of the society by making available easy credit to the needy.
Responding to the request of RBI officers regarding development of basic infrastructure in the village, he announced setting up of an office of the Agriculture Department and construction of a bridge and a road connecting the village to the other villages.
U C Lohani, Deputy General Manager, RBI said that on completing 75 years of service the bank has decided to reach out to the people living in the remotest corners of the country in order to explain to them the impact that RBI has made on their lives.
