Govt to release 14 lakh cft timber

Jammu, Jan 29: Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, Mian Altaf Ahmad has said that 14 lakhs cft of timber will be made available to people at Government Depots so that the people do not face any inconvenience.
The Minister was reviewing the functioning of Forest Department and the State Forest Corporation here today.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner Secretary, Forests, Shant Manu, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Jagdish Kishwan, Managing Director State Forest Corporation, Abdul Qayoom Khan and senior officers of the Department.
The Minister, according to an official statement, said that efforts would be made to conserve water bodies and forestland in the State as they are directly related to the sustenance of mankind. He said that World Wet Land Day will be observed in February 02 at Suirnsar- Mansar lakes so that people get awareness about the conservation of water bodies and environment for taking necessary steps for the purpose.
The meeting also discussed the Kishtwar Wildlife project and other important issues related to the preservation of forests.
