1965/71 war explosives dug out near LoC

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

Jammu: Forces on Sunday dug out ammunition and explosives, including mortar shells, believed to be left out during India-Pak conflicts in 1965 or 1971 from the border belt of Chowk-Chorah area in the district, police said today.
The arms and ammunition were covered with rust. The recovery included 63 rounds of ammunition, four grenades, two mortar shells and fuses of bombs.
Police suspect that the ammunition and explosives were left out probably during 1965 or 1971 Indo-Pak wars. The explosives were defused by bomb disposal squad after a farmer informed the police about it.
It is the presence of mortar shells, used in wars, that led police to suspect it to be of that period. Search is on in the area for such materials.
