Distorting history

This refers to the news story titled “How our history is taught” (GK 1.1.2010). The story has reference to a General Knowledge book called Chronicle India 2010 which is usually used as a guide by people preparing for Central or State civil services examinations. The book contains all malicious and distorted information about Jammu and Kashmir. According to this book Sheikh Abdullah has been regarded as communal and autocratic ruler. The book says that in 1931 there were worst communal riots in Kashmir which were lead by Sheikh Abdullah under the banner of Muslim Conference. It further says that in 1953 Sheikh Abdullah was arrested as he had turned corrupt and autocratic. He tried to hold India for ransom by giving increasingly anti India speeches to preserve his power. The book continues to say that Bakshi Ghulam Muhammad was a democratically elected leader of J&K who ratified states accession with India in 1954. All these issues must be an eye opener for people of J&K in general and National Conference leadership in particular. The way wrong history is being taught to new generation is highly condemnable. All such books must be boycotted by people of our state and Government must impose ban on Chronicle India 2010.
