Jammu, Jan 4: Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo has said that the Government endeavours to empower women by ensuring their participation in all walks of life, adding for the purpose various initiatives were underway to encourage them for living a dignified life in the society.
Speaking at 14th meeting of the Board of Directors of Women Development Corporation (WDC) here today, the Minister said that various welfare schemes have been launched for women to enable them to set up their own income generating ventures.
While reviewing the physical and financial achievements registered by the Women Development Corporation, the meeting was informed that Rs 17.57 crore have been provided as term loan among 3,171 beneficiaries, besides Rs 29.41 lakh as educational loan among 35 beneficiaries by the WDC till November 2009.
It was informed that 11,412 women have been acquainted with various vocational, skill development and craft development trainings during the said period.
