Polythene ban

This refers to the ban on use of polythene in Jammu and Kashmir. While one appreciates the step, there is a lot more that needs be done. Firstly, the ban has to be implemented on ground. Mere words won’t do. The agencies like the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and State Pollution Control Board must act and monitor the implementation of the ban. The step can go a long way in ensuring clean environment. Secondly, the defaulters should be severely punished. Earlier the agencies were falling short of laws, but now they don’t have any excuse.
