Srinagar, June 30: Chief General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), J&K Regional Office, Jammu,   M. L. Sukhdeve, called on Governor N. N. Vohra, at Raj Bhavan, here today.
 The Governor, according to an official statement, discussed with   Sukhdeve the overall scale and broad categorisation of the various NABARD funded schemes in J&K, the status of their implementation and the volume of financial support being extended by it for the promotion of agriculture development and rural prosperity in the State.
 The Governor emphasized that keeping in view the vast potential for promotion and diversification of agriculture and allied sectors, there is urgent need for significantly enhanced initiatives being taken by all the stakeholders to boost these sectors which shall, in turn, will promote the economy and generate employment avenues in the State. The CGM, NABARD, briefed the Governor about the functioning of the NABARD in J&K and the funding being made available for various rural infrastructure development schemes. He added that rural road connectivity, construction of bridges, primary health centre and school buildings, irrigation and flood control sectors are among the thrust areas of the NABARD funding in the State.  This was   Sukhdeve’s first meeting with the Governor after he took over his present assignment some months ago.
