Protests have nothing to do with Yatra: Mirwaiz

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, June 30: The Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq on Wednesday made it clear that the protests in Kashmir had nothing to do with the Amarnath Yatra and “we want it to pass off peacefully and successfully.”
“Our protests are against the human rights violations and unabated killing of innocent civilians in Kashmir,” said Mirwaiz, who is currently under house arrest.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (M) has termed as unfortunate and partial the reports aired by some national TV channels dubbing the peaceful Kashmiri protesters as “rioters and mischievous elements” and justifying their killing in firing by the security forces.
In a statement today, a spokesman of the Hurriyat said the continued peaceful public protests in Kashmir were only against the human rights violations by the police and security forces and “for freedom”.
The spokesman strongly condemned the killing of innocent civilians in south Kashmir by police and expressed solidarity with the families of martyred youth. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of injured in the police firing.
Condemning the imposition of curfew in whole Kashmir, the spokesman accused the government of leaving the people to the mercy of CRPF, police and other armed forces. He has condemned the house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and detention of other pro-freedom leaders and activists, appealing people to continue peaceful protests in accordance with programme already announced.
