SKUAST-K VC APPOINTMENT
Agros write to Chancellor
Srinagar, June 30: Even as the ‘search committee’ appointed by the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of SK University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology-Kashmir, is understood to have finally submitted a panel of candidates for appointment to the coveted post of Vice-Chancellor of the university, which will be vacant on July 4, with present incumbent attaining the age of 65 years, concerns are being expressed by insiders who want the slot to go to an accredited scientist of national and international standing.
Expressing apprehensions that some mediocre may succeed in getting the coveted position through political maneuvers, a group of agriculture scientists urged the Chancellor and Pro Chancellor to consider a candidate purely on the basis of merit and experience rather than be guided by political considerations in the appointment.
The university has suffered much in the past and it is time to make amends, said a memorandum purported to have been submitted to the Chancellor. With Prime Minister’s one time developmental grant of Rs 100 Crores, the university is likely to witness a sea change, but once its reigns are given to a highly accredited scientists who can take it to new heights, said the agros.
